Accommodation Facilities
Facilities and services available in Luma University halls of residence.
Kitchen and dining
Self-catered halls provide fully equipped shared kitchens in each flat. Residents organise cleaning rotas; housekeeping inspects fortnightly. Microwaves, toasters and kettles are permitted in bedrooms; cooking appliances with open elements are not permitted for fire safety.
Campus catering outlets offer meal deals and dietary options including halal, vegetarian and vegan choices. Some residents purchase optional catered packages for weekday lunches through the refectory.
Laundry and housekeeping
Laundry rooms in each hall operate washing machines and tumble dryers on app payment, typically £2.50 per wash and £1.50 per dry. Ironing boards are available in common areas.
Communal corridors and bathrooms in standard accommodation receive daily cleaning. En-suite bedrooms are the resident's responsibility; end-of-contract cleaning charges apply if rooms are left in unacceptable condition.
Security and access
Halls operate secure entry with key fob or app access. Visitors must be signed in at reception after 22:00. CCTV covers external areas and entrances. Residence Life staff are on duty evenings and weekends; emergency contact numbers are displayed in each flat.
Report maintenance issues through the online portal; emergency repairs such as loss of heating are prioritised. A maintenance technician is on call overnight during term time.
Wi-Fi and utilities
Residences connect to eduroam and a hall-specific network for devices without eduroam support. Bandwidth supports streaming and online learning; fair usage policies prohibit commercial server hosting.
Heating operates on central timers with boost controls in flats. Residents are encouraged to report windows not closing properly before winter to avoid heat loss and condensation issues.
