Postgraduate Applications

Apply for taught Master's degrees, PGCE programmes, MBA study and research degrees at Luma University.

Taught postgraduate programmes

Applications for taught Master's programmes, PGCE courses and the MBA are submitted directly to Luma through our online postgraduate portal. Create an account, select your programme, upload transcripts, personal statement and references, and pay the application fee where applicable. Some programmes require a research proposal or portfolio.

There is no single deadline for most taught programmes—we operate rolling admissions and recommend applying at least three months before your intended start date. Popular programmes including MSc Data Science, LLM Law and PGCE Primary may close earlier when places are filled. September is the main entry point; a smaller January intake is available for selected business and computing programmes.

Research degrees

PhD and MPhil applicants must identify a potential supervisor before applying. Browse research staff profiles on departmental websites and email proposed supervisors with a brief outline of your research interests. If they agree to support your application, submit the formal application through the portal including a detailed research proposal, CV and two academic references.

Research applications are assessed by the doctoral college and relevant school. Successful applicants receive an offer conditional upon meeting any academic requirements and, for international students, obtaining a CAS for visa purposes. Funded studentships are advertised on the research vacancies page; competition is strong and early application is essential.

Supporting documents

Postgraduate applicants typically provide degree certificates and transcripts, a personal statement explaining academic preparation and career goals, and two references from academic or professional sources. Non-native English speakers must demonstrate language proficiency through IELTS, PTE Academic or an equivalent qualification—see our English language requirements page for minimum scores.

Certified translations are required for documents not in English. The admissions team may request additional information if qualifications are unfamiliar or if your academic background does not clearly meet entry criteria. Decisions are usually communicated within four weeks, though research applications involving supervisor matching may take longer.

Fees, funding and enrolment

Postgraduate tuition fees vary by programme and student fee status. Home students may be eligible for Master's loans of up to £12,858 through Student Finance England. Scholarships and bursaries are listed on our scholarships page; many require a separate application after receiving an offer.

Once you accept your offer, you will receive enrolment instructions including online module selection, identity verification and payment arrangements. International students receive a CAS after meeting all conditions and paying the required deposit. Enrolment must be completed before the programme start date to maintain visa compliance.
