Course overview
Our LLB (Hons) Law degree provides a comprehensive legal education covering the foundations of English and Welsh law. As a Qualifying Law Degree (QLD), it satisfies the academic stage of training for solicitors and barristers, with additional SQE preparation support integrated into the final year.
Core modules include contract law, criminal law, tort law, public law, land law, equity and trusts, and EU law. You will develop legal research, writing, and advocacy skills through mooting competitions, mock trials, and written submissions assessed to professional standards.
Luma Law School operates a pro bono clinic serving local communities, giving students supervised experience of client interviewing, case research, and legal advice under qualified solicitor supervision. This practical experience distinguishes our graduates in competitive legal recruitment.
Optional modules in Year 3 cover commercial law, family law, medical law, human rights, and intellectual property. Our academics include practising solicitors and barristers who bring current casework insights into the classroom.
The Law School maintains strong connections with regional law firms, chambers, and the Crown Prosecution Service. Regular careers events, vacation scheme guidance, and pupillage workshops support your progression into the legal profession.
Entry requirements
- A-levels
- ABB including at least one essay-based subject.
- International Baccalaureate
- 28–34 points including relevant higher level subjects at grade 5 or above.
- BTEC
- DDM–DMM in a relevant Extended Diploma, depending on the programme.
- GCSEs
- English Language and Mathematics at grade 4/C or equivalent.
- Other routes
- LNAT not required but recommended for strengthening applications.

Career opportunities
LLB graduates pursue careers as solicitors, barristers, legal executives, and in-house counsel, as well as roles in compliance, civil service, and policy. Our graduates have secured training contracts with regional firms including Shoosmiths, Gateley, and Weightmans, as well as pupillages on the Midlands circuit.
Non-practising career paths include paralegal roles, legal technology, and further study via the Legal Practice Course or Bar Training Course. Employability support includes mock assessment centres and application workshops throughout the degree.
Placements
Vacation schemes and mini-pupillages are supported through our legal careers adviser. Students undertake placements with local law firms, Citizens Advice, and the Crown Prosecution Service during summer vacations.
The pro bono clinic provides year-round practical experience, counting towards SQE qualifying work experience requirements for eligible activities.
Facilities
The Moot Court Room replicates courtroom settings with judge's bench, witness stand, and gallery seating. Legal research skills are taught using Westlaw, LexisNexis, and HeinOnline in dedicated library training sessions.
Law Society activities include mooting teams competing nationally, debating society events, and social networking with legal professionals.

- What A-level subjects do I need for Law?
- Entry requirements vary by programme, but most undergraduate courses expect relevant subjects at grade B or above. We also welcome applicants with BTEC Extended Diplomas, T Levels, Access to HE Diplomas, and equivalent international qualifications. If your combination differs from the published requirements, contact our admissions team — contextual offers may be available for students from widening participation backgrounds.
- Can I study part-time?
- Many of our postgraduate programmes offer part-time study over two to four years, allowing you to balance work and family commitments. Part-time undergraduate study is available on selected courses; contact admissions@luma.ac.uk for current options. Part-time students have the same access to library resources, careers support, and student services as full-time students.
- Are there scholarships available?

- Can I transfer from another university?
- Transfer applications are considered on a case-by-case basis. You will need to provide transcripts and module descriptions so we can assess credit for prior learning. - Does this degree qualify me as a solicitor?
- The LLB satisfies the academic requirements for solicitor qualification. You will then need to pass the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE1 and SQE2) and complete two years of qualifying work experience. We provide SQE preparation modules and practice exam support in the final year.
