The Faculty of Science and Engineering hosts a research seminar featuring Professor James Okonkwo, Director of the Centre for Sustainable Infrastructure, presenting interim findings from the £4.2 million UKRI-funded community renewable energy project.
The seminar examines how suburban and small-town communities across the West Midlands can adopt solar, battery storage and smart grid technologies without wholesale infrastructure replacement. Professor Okonkwo will share data from the living laboratory on the Edgewater campus and discuss policy implications for local authorities and housing associations.
The session is open to staff, postgraduate researchers and final-year undergraduates interested in sustainability, urban planning and energy systems. A thirty-minute Q&A follows the presentation, and refreshments are provided in the foyer from 12:30.
Registration helps us manage seating in Lecture Theatre 3, which accommodates 120 attendees. The seminar will be recorded and uploaded to the research portal for those unable to attend in person. Related reading materials will be circulated to registered participants 48 hours before the event.
