Library Opening Hours

During autumn and spring terms, the Sir Gerald Ashworth Library opens Monday to Thursday 08:00–00:00, Friday 08:00–22:00, Saturday 09:00–20:00 and Sunday 10:00–20:00. Extended hours until midnight on weekdays reflect student demand during assessment periods.

The help desk operates Monday to Friday 09:00–17:00 with reduced staffing at evenings and weekends when self-service facilities remain available.

Summer vacation hours (June–August) are Monday to Friday 09:00–17:00, closed weekends unless examination periods require extended access. Christmas and Easter vacations operate reduced hours published on the library website by November each year.

24-hour access operates in designated zones during January examination fortnight for registered users who complete safety briefing.

The digital archive suite and special collections reading room operate by appointment Monday to Friday 10:00–16:00. Contact specialcollections@luma.ac.uk at least three working days before your visit to request materials.

West Midlands Industrial Archive digital resources are accessible online 24/7 through the archive portal.

The library closes on English public bank holidays and for up to three days at Christmas for essential maintenance. Advance notice of closures appears on the library homepage, email alerts and signage at entrances.

Emergency closures due to severe weather or utility failures are communicated via the university alert system.
