Faculty of Science and Engineering

Departments include Engineering, Computing, Life Sciences and Physical Sciences. REF 2029 submissions span units of assessment in engineering, computer science and allied health research. Strengths include automotive engineering, renewable energy, biomedical sciences and applied physics.

Doctoral training partnerships with Midlands universities provide funded studentships in engineering and physical sciences.

Faculty of Health and Social Care

The School of Health and School of Social Work produce research directly impacting clinical practice and social care policy. Nursing research focuses on workforce development, patient safety and community care models. Social work research addresses child protection, adult safeguarding and integration of health and social care services.

Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Education

Research in English, history, creative writing, education and law contributes to cultural life and policy debate. Creative writing staff include published novelists and poets; history staff lead heritage projects; education researchers shape initial teacher training nationally.

The law school focuses on criminal justice, human rights and legal education pedagogy.

Faculty of Business and Law

Business school research covers entrepreneurship, regional economic development, sustainable finance and organisational behaviour. The MBA consultancy programme generates applied research with SME partners. Law research supports mooting excellence and policy submissions on access to justice.
