Careers Service

The Careers and Employability Service supports students from arrival through graduation and beyond. Access one-to-one guidance appointments, CV and application reviews, mock interviews and psychometric test practice through the online booking system or drop-in sessions in the Student Services building.

All students have access to the careers portal listing part-time jobs, placements, internships and graduate vacancies. Employers targeting Luma graduates include regional NHS trusts, Jaguar Land Rover, local councils, accountancy firms and schools across the West Midlands.

Many programmes include optional or mandatory placements. The School of Health coordinates NHS clinical placements; the Business School offers consultancy projects with SMEs; engineering students access year-long industrial placements through partnerships including Jaguar Land Rover.

The Summer Experience Fund provides bursaries for undergraduates undertaking unpaid internships or volunteering that develops career-related skills. Applications open in March for summer activity.

Graduate Outcomes survey data shows 89 per cent of Luma graduates in employment or further study within fifteen months of completion. Popular sectors include health and social care, education, engineering, business services and public administration.

The annual Spring Careers Fair attracts over 80 employers. Final-year students receive targeted support including assessment centre preparation and guidance on accepting graduate scheme offers.

Students interested in starting businesses can access the Enterprise Hub in the Business School, offering mentoring, workspace and connections to regional funding programmes. The careers service also advises on postgraduate study options, including applications to Luma Master's programmes and courses elsewhere.

Alumni retain access to careers resources for three years after graduation, including the vacancy portal and selected events.
